3 Star Recruit Commits To Boise State

Malek Harwell, a 3 star rate basketball player from Centruy High School in Pocatello, commits to Boise State University. He is a 6 foot 4 inch point guard, is a top rated prospect in the state of Idaho. As a senior he averaged  points and almost 5 rebounds per game and was the leader of his team in their runner up appearance in the 4A State Championship.

This past spring, Malek had surgery on a knee had had hurt prior to the season and the Boise State staff and coaches visited him while he was in the hospital. He said that because of the care they showed for him by flying down to see him, made a big impression on him and eventually led him to chose to go to Boise State. He had visited the Boise campus in September and that sealed the deal.

While he was there he visited with the staff, got a tour around the campus before he made his final decision, thus confirming it with Coach Rice on the tour.

Markel also had also had offers from many other colleges around the States including, Utah State, Lehigh, Toledo, Tulsa, Wyoming, and San Francisco. Harwell was out for the first half of the season and when he came back, their team was 14-11 entering the tournament. Coaches have said that he his pretty much unguardable at this level of competition and will do well at the next level at Boise State University. In the tournament, Markell racked up 37 points against Rigby, 44 againts Blackfoot, and a triple double against Preston, recording 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Those performances made him one of the most sought after recruits in the State of Idaho.
