The Liberty Charter girl’s track team has a hard season in front of them because of the loss of athletes from the senior class and the main question is, will the girl’s team be able to reclaim state champions in this 2017 season. They lost their main runners: Erika Linford, Sydney Schafer, and Brianna Giselle. Each girl contributed strongly during state. Erika took second place in the 100 meters, second in the 200 meters, and second in the 100 meters’ hurdles. Sydney Schafer mainly ran in the relay events that gave the team a good amount of points and got twelfth in long jump. Brianna Giselle also participated in the relays along with Sydney and placed third in the 400 meters. From these three ladies placing high in their events it helped the team take State Champions. But after this loss of three great athletes will the team be able to take home the trophy and banner again? An athlete who ran at state in the relays at last year and is running again this year, gave her opinion in the matter, “ It will definitely be a harder season but right now we are focusing on getting in runner shape before thinking about state. My hope is that we do it again, but we’ll need to work harder and together as one if we want to win.” The girl’s team is smaller compared to last year but some new girl’s have decided to come run. Hopefully with those girls and the talented girls that still remain they will be able to pull through and make it once again.
