“Border Security is National Security, and National Security is the long-term viability of our Country. A government shutdown is a very small price to pay for a safe and Prosperous America!” tweeted our current president, Donald J. Trump, on August 1st, 2018. The government shutdown, which still has continued into the new year, was forced upon the nation by President Trump, after Congress was questioning funding the building of the wall between the U.S. and Mexico. After 35 days of lower ranked government employees working without pay, the shutdown, however, came to an end, reopening offices on January 25th, 2019.
But was this propaganda really worth it? The Democratic party within Congress continually fights against the building of the border wall. For what purpose though? The constructing of the divider between our country and Mexico is in order to avoid the importation of illegal immigrants. Yet, uneducated people of America still protest and argue the building of Trump’s wall for illegitimate purposes. The wall is to keep illegal immigrant from other countries, most commonly Mexico, from infiltrating our country. Emphasizing the word “ILLEGAL”.
Immigration is a big part of the American lifestyle. People from foreign countries traveling here from their homelands to start a new life, for access to freedom or a more achievable lively hood. The argument, however, rises when HOW people come into our country is discussed. Coming to America to start over or escape tragic surroundings is what the American Dream lives for but, coming into this country on all the wrong terms is troubling. Not only do illegal immigrants go against the government by not following the law, but citizens as well. Is it fair that an illegal “citizen” gets a job over a legal American who was born and raised? Is it fair that an illegal gets granted a house lease over a legal citizen that has been working their whole life to be able to afford it? The answer is no, and always will be no. A person who has come to this country illegally, should not be aloud to take what Americans have been striving for.
I, and I am sure others, are all for immigration, as long as it is done legally, and correctly. Please come to our country but do it in a way in which you do not affect the life of other American citizens negatively.
So… was the government shutdown really necessary? No, but now that the government has been reopened, as a unit, Americans can support one another to help improve the security of America entirely.
